CODING CONTEST- SENIOR SECONDARY

 

Problem Description

Using technology to enhance education would be efficient and fun. Smart education is the concept that learning and teaching activities can be developed with technology. In this competition each contestant group should design an educational system through which a student should be able to learn easily areas either in Mathematics or Science. Students are free to select any tools to design the application. It should be informative and interesting.
 

Eligibility 

  • Internal students who are studying in government or private schools from grade 11 to 13 are eligible to apply under this category.
  • Those who have completed G.C.E. Advanced Level(on previous year) or students preparing for the 2nd attempt(on this year) are also allowed to compete under this category

 

Technologies 

Contestants are free to use any technology as they wish. But they are strongly advised not to use pirated software.

  • Better learning environment: Your system should provide an effective, informal learning environment, and help learners to practice real life situations and challenges in a safe environment.
  • Instant feedback: It should provide instant feedback so that the learners know what they know or what they should know.
  • Interactivity: Traditional learning methods frequently promote the passive intake of information. Thus, system should provide users an interactive and innovative learning experience.
  • Increased understanding and retention: The engagement and interactivity aspects of gamification should contribute to enhanced intake and retention of information

 

Rules and Regulations

  • Each team should consist of maximum 5 members.
  • All members in the team must be from the same school.
  • There can be multiple groups from the same school,but the same student cannot represent more than one team.
  • Applications should not be built on social networks ( e.g. Facebook games )
  • Applications should not be a result of any tutorial
  • The students cannot come up with the solution, which is an integration of the frame works, since we are mainly focused on the code written by the students.

 

Selection Process

The selection process of the school category projects would be based on two stages:

  • Preliminary Rounds
  • Grand Finale

 

Evaluation: Preliminary Rounds

All projects submitted will be evaluated based on the evaluation criteria that would be published in the CODEFEST website. The best 5 projects will be selected based on an oral presentation and demonstration and will progress to the final round. The evaluation process of this round would commence after the closing date of the submission of the projects.
 

Evaluation: Grand Finale

Out of the best 5 projects, the best three projects will be selected based on an oral presentation and demonstration.In the final round, the best three projects will be awarded first, second and third prizes respectively.In addition to the cash prizes,the People’s Award will be too awarded.

CODING CONTEST- JUNIOR SECONDARY

 

Theme-: Improve the self-learning skills of the Sri Lankan students

It seems the Sri Lankan students are strongly depending only on the content taught in a class, which numbs their learning abilities, thus, restricts the knowledge they gain. To become a master in any domain, it is essential to learn and improve the self-learning skills as shown in the figure below, which provides many advantages, and strongly practising.

We think, now it is time to let the Sri Lankan students aware of the importance of the self-learning skills and introduce them some materials to improve their self-learning skills as well as assist their journey in self-learning.
 
Focused areas-:

  1. Self-learning skills introduction and improving – Introduce the concept of self-learning and its advantages, teach what the self-learning skills are and guide to improve them.
  2. Any subject matter under O/L school curriculum – Using self-learning to learn and improve the knowledge in subject matters
  3. Brain stimulating exercises – Any types of activities, which help to stimulate the brain, in order to assist in improving the self-learning skills

 
Task to do-:

Think of how ICT can be used as a tool in the above-focused areas, for both teaching and learning, then come up with a creative solution.

Your solution can be presented by any mean as bellow, on a selected topic relating to the focused areas:

  • Presentation of the findings of a survey
  • Poster of a conceptual proposal for a solution
  • A website with some content
  • A web application containing some activities
  • Mobile application
  • Any other ICT solution…

    ICT QUIZ & School Workshop

     

    ICT Quiz 2018

    The CODEFEST is trying to assess the ICT knowledge and the usage of Sri Lankan School students through the contest of ICT Quiz.
    The questions are based on the ICT syllabus of G.C.E O/L and A/L.
     

    The competition will cover

    • The Knowledge of ICT (Questions will be based on their ICT Syllabus)
    • The ICT applicability and know how to apply for a given scenario
      The General knowledge of ICT and its applicability in the real world

     

    Eligibility

    • Internal students who are studying in government or private schools are eligible to apply under this category.

     

    Rules and Regulations

    • Each team should consist of maximum 3 members.
    • Only one team from each school can represent their school in ICT Quiz Competition

     

    Selection Process

    The selection process of the quiz contest would be based on three stages:

    • Preliminary Round
    • Second round (maximum of 20 teams will be advanced)
    • Grand finale ( 6 Finalists)
    School Workshop 2018

    This year SLIIT CODEFEST organizers have planned to conduct the school workshop,which is organizing as a parallel event to the preliminary round of ict quiz based on three centers.
    They are Kandy,Colombo and Matara.
    Five students from each school can participate for this event.
    In registration participants must select the nearest center.

    OVERNIGHT HACKATHON

     

    Problem Description

    In this competition, four-member student teams representing all Universities and Institutes of Sri Lanka will be competing with each other to prove their software development expertise. The competition consists of an awareness session to introduce the tools and platforms to be used, which is then followed by two rounds.The best ten teams of the first round will be competing in the final round for 24 competitive hours to be crowned as the winners.

     

    Eligibility

    • Those who have already registered in a degree program, diploma or any program in a state university or higher education institute in Sri Lanka.
    • Those who are registered for an external degree program in any Sri Lankan University.

     

    Technologies

    The software development platforms, tools to be used for the contest will be introduced at the 1-day training session will be held 1 month prior to the event.
     

    Rules and Regulations

    • Each team can consist of maximum 4 members from the same university / institute.

     

    Selection Process

    Preliminary selection will take place after the training session. Best 10 teams will be selected for the final round.

    The best ten teams of the first round will be competing in the final round for 24 competitive hours to be crowned as the winners.

    Designathon is a speed design challenge where participants form teams in order to design a desktop/web/mobile application to solve a real-world problem within 24 hours. Designathon is similar to a hackathon. This event is open for both novice and experts in User Experience Design. The purpose of the competition is to recognize undergraduate students who have achieved landmarks in User Experience Design.
    Designathon provides its competitors with opportunities to improve their individual profiles and as well as for networking with other User Experience Designers. They would be rewarded for their accomplishments.

    CAPTURE THE FLAG

     

    Problem Description

    “Hack Me if You Can”: Capture the Flag tournament is a distributed, wide-area security exercise, of which the goal is to test the security skills of the contestants. It is organized as part of the 3rd year Cyber Security students’ capstone project. Attack-oriented CTF competitions try to distill the essence of many aspects of professional computer security work into a single short exercise that is objectively measurable.This year we will provide 5 major challenges for our participants.

    This competition measures different skills of offensive security and its key areas for the contestants to be solved within 8 hour time period. Success in CTF competitions demands that participant be an expert in mentioned areas. Winners will be selected based on the levels they have completed and successful capture of each flag.

    • Team members should be from the same institute (University/Institute ID OR a letter issued by authorized personnel of the University/Institution).
    • Preparation time is allocated for file copying, network setup, and other preliminary requirements.
    • Contestants should bring a USB Flash Drive (Minimum 32GB Capacity), VMWare & Kali Linux or similar pen-testing box.
    • Hardware(PC/Laptop etc.) & Software necessary for the competition will not be provided.
    • Square pin power sockets will be provided. However, we encourage you to bring your own power cords/multi-plugs.
    • You can use your own 4G routers for unrestricted internet access.
    • Refreshment & Lunch will be provided throughout the day.
    • Instructions provided on the day should be strictly followed.
    • Final evaluation will be done by industry-led professional judges and the decision of the panel shall be final.
    • Prizes & awards will be given on the final awards ceremony (3rd of October).

    NETCOM CONTEST

     

    Description

    NetCom Competition, organized by the Department of Information Systems Engineering under Faculty event CODEFEST 2018, provides a great opportunity for students to showcase their networking abilities, and gain visibility among talent recruiters in the growing ICT and networking field.NetCom competition is open to any university student who is currently or was recently enrolled in any institute or university in Sri Lanka.
