SL EXSTO Awards

 

This competition is organized to unveil the unique talents, creativity, and innovations of the undergraduates from state and non-state universities/institutes in Sri Lanka. This is an effort to motivate the students and to open new avenues for them to gain exposure to the industry expanding their horizons in the field of IT. Further, this recognizes the great efforts and commitments of the supervisors who drive these students towards their success. In this competition each team is given the challenge of producing a highly innovative and marketable product.

Eligibility

• Those who have already registered in a degree program, diploma or any program in a state university or higher education institute in Sri Lanka.
• Those who are registered for an external degree program in any Sri Lankan university.
• Supervisor(s) should be from the same university/institute as the contestants.
• There can be maximum of six members in a team including the supervisor(s).

Evaluation Process

The competition consists of two rounds:
 Initial Round
Each team will be given 10mins to demonstrate their system to the panel of judges. The best ten systems
would be selected based on the following criteria:
1. Novelty of the concept
2. UI/UX aspects
3. Business potential

 Final Round
Top ten teams from the initial round will be advanced to the final round. Each team will be given 15mins to
demonstrate their system to the panel of judges.

Evaluation Dates

• Initial round: 10th October 2019
• Final round: 31st October 2019
• Showcase: 1st November 2019

Winner: Rs: 125,000/=
1st Runner up: Rs: 75,000/=
2nd Runner up: Rs: 50,000/=


Rules and Regulations

• The developed system should be the original work of the contestants. Any system containing plagiarized work will be disqualified.
• Each group must bring all the hardware and software that are needed to demonstrate their product.
• Participating groups must do their presentation on a date given by the SL EXSTO Awards committee.
• Selected final ten groups must showcase their products on the day of the Grand Finale. The SL EXSTO Awards organizing committee holds the right to remove any group who does not participate for the showcase, from the competition.
• The panel of judges’ decision is the final decision.
• By participating in the competition, participant consents to the collection and use of the information they submit. By entering the competition, the winners authorize SLIIT to use their names, photographs, and statements regarding the prizes for advertising or other purposes, without any compensation;
• The institute will assume no responsibility or liability of any nature in all cases beyond its control. SLIIT reserves the right to cancel, modify, or suspend the competition or to amend the General Competition Rules.
• The institute is not responsible for incomplete, lost or late entries, technical computer hardware or software failures of any kind, lost or interrupted or unavailable network connections, or failed, incomplete, garbled, misrouted, scrambled or delayed computer transmission, or other errors or problems of any kind, whether mechanical, human, electronic or otherwise, which may limit or affect in any way a contestant’s ability to participate in the competition.

Overnight Hackathon

 

Overnight Hackathon is one of the key competitions at SLIIT CODEFEST. This competition is organized under the tertiary category to focus on enhancing the software development capabilities of undergraduates from state and non-state universities/institutes in Sri Lanka. The competition is held in two rounds. In the initial round, the registered groups are required to submit a software product on a given topic. The selected best ten groups qualify to compete in the final round which is a 24 hour overnight hackathon. The best three groups are awarded cash prizes.

Overnight Designathon

 

The aim of this competition is to recognize undergraduate students who have achieved landmarks in User Experience Design. Designathon is a speed design challenge where participants design a mobile, desktop or web application to solve a real-world problem within 24 hours. Each team can consist of four to five members.

Capture the Flag

 

“Hack Me if You Can” Capture the Flag tournament is a distributed, wide-area security exercise, whose goal is to test the security skills of the participants. This competition provides different types of offensive security problems for the participants to solve within a 6 hour time period. There can be maximum of four members in a team. Winners are selected based on the activities and levels they have completed.

AI Innovator

 

AI innovator competition gives an open platform for AI enthusiasts to showcase their skills and innovation to a broader audience. The participants may develop a software enabled solution that uses AI/Machine learning related algorithms/technologies to solve interesting real-world problems. The participants may compete as individuals or as groups where each group can consist of not more than 4 members. The competition consists of multiple rounds and ten groups/contestants will be selected for the final round. The winners will receive cash prizes as well as the opportunity to showcase their project to the potential investors.

Datathon

 

Contestants are challenged to develop a data science based software solution for a given data intensive real-world problem using machine learning concepts, which can find patterns, extract new knowledge, generate insights and predictions, and visualize them effectively. A team should comprise of four members. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.

NetCom

 

This competition provides a great opportunity for students to showcase their networking abilities, and gain visibility among talent recruiters in the growing ICT and networking field. NetCom competition is open to any student who is currently enrolled in any university/institute in Sri Lanka. The competition is held in two rounds. Each team should comprise a maximum of four undergraduate students.

ඇසි දිසි රූ – Short Film Competition

 

The aim of this competition is to recognize undergraduate students with industry level cinematography skills to demonstrate their talents in visual story telling.  Each group can consist of a maximum of five students enrolled in any university/institute in Sri Lanka.

Coding Contest Senior

 

Coding contest is open to students in and above grade 10. The competition requires students to develop a software product based on a given theme. There can be a maximum of five members in a team. All team members are required to be from the same school. There can be multiple groups from the same school, but one student cannot represent two teams. The competition consists of a preliminary round and five finalists will be selected for the grand finale. In the final round, the best three projects will be awarded winner, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up prizes respectively.

Coding Contest Junior

 

Coding junior is open to students below grade 10. Similar to Coding Contest Senior, the competition requires students to develop a software product based on a given theme. There can be a maximum of five members in a team. All team members are required to be from the same school. There can be multiple groups from the same school, but one student cannot represent two teams. The competition consists of a preliminary round and five finalists will be selected for the grand finale. In the final round, the best three projects will be awarded winner, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up prizes respectively.

ICT Quiz

 

The quiz competition will be held on the day of the grand finale of CODEFEST. There can be a maximum of three members in a team. The questions are based on the ICT syllabus of G.C.E O/L and A/L. The three best teams will be selected for the final round. The next best five teams will be awarded merit awards.
