The quiz competition will be held on the day of the grand finale of CODEFEST. There can be a maximum of three members in a team. Only one team can participate from one school.The questions are based on the ICT syllabus of G.C.E O/L and A/L. The three best teams will be selected for the final round. The next best five teams will be awarded merit awards.

Overnight Hackathon

Overnight Hackathon is one of the key competitions at SLIIT CODEFEST. This competition is organized under the tertiary category to focus on enhancing the software development capabilities of undergraduates from state and non-state universities/institutes in Sri Lanka. The competition is held in two rounds. In the initial round, the registered groups are required to submit a software product on a given topic. The selected best ten groups qualify to compete in the final round which is a 24 hour overnight hackathon. The best three groups are awarded cash prizes.

DATATHON

Contestants are challenged to develop a data science based software solution for a given data intensive real-world problem using machine learning concepts, which can find patterns, extract new knowledge, generate insights and predictions, and visualize them effectively. A team should comprise of four members. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.

1st Runner up: Rs: 25,000/=

Coding Contest Junior

Coding junior is open to students below grade 10. Similar to Coding Contest Senior, the competition requires students to develop a software product based on a given theme. There can be a maximum of five members in a team. All team members are required to be from the same school. There can be multiple groups from the same school, but one student cannot represent two teams. The competition consists of a preliminary round and five finalists will be selected for the grand finale. In the final round, the best three projects will be awarded winner, 1^st runner up and 2^nd runner up prizes respectively.

Winner: Rs.75 000/=

1^st Runner up: Rs.50 000/=

2^nd Runner up: Rs. 25 000/=

AI Innovator

AI innovator competition gives an open platform for AI enthusiasts to showcase their skills and innovation to a broader audience. The participants may develop a software enabled solution that uses AI/Machine learning related algorithms/technologies to solve interesting real-world problems. The participants may compete as individuals or as groups where each group can consist of not more than 4 members. The competition consists of multiple rounds and ten groups/contestants will be selected for the final round. The winners will receive cash prizes as well as the opportunity to showcase their project to the potential investors.

Capture the Flag

“Hack Me if You Can” Capture the Flag tournament is a distributed, wide-area security exercise, whose goal is to test the security skills of the participants. This competition provides different types of offensive security problems for the participants to solve within a 6 hour time period. There can be maximum of four members in a team. Winners are selected based on the activities and levels they have completed.

This competition provides a great opportunity for students to showcase their networking abilities, and gain visibility among talent recruiters in the growing ICT and networking field. NetCom competition is open to any student who is currently enrolled in any university/institute in Sri Lanka. The competition is held in two rounds. IOT Competition

IoT applications and services are defining the future of the world from different perspectives including Smart Societies, Smart towns, Smart Universities, and Smart Communities. Moreover, the engineers who have the intellect of IoT are very much in demand around the globe, and it is among the fastest growing careers in Sri Lanka as well. The competition is designed to give an open challenge along with the CODEFEST 2019 theme to propose and demonstrate smart solutions to real-world problems, e.g., Smart systems for schools. There can be a maximum of four members in a team. In addition, each team should have an ICT teacher as a mentor. The solution will be evaluated carefully for its innovativeness, practicality, business value, and originality.

SL EXSTO Awards is organized to unveil the unique talents, creativity and innovations of the undergraduates from state and non-state universities/institutes in Sri Lanka. This is an effort to motivate the students and to open up new avenues for them to gain exposure to the industry expanding their horizons in the field of IT. Further, this recognizes the great efforts and commitments of the supervisors who drive these students towards their success. The competition is held in two rounds. AdaEsc – Unveiling her power through coding

Following the footsteps of Ada Lovelace: the first programmer in the history, “AdaEsc” aims to inspire and educate girls and women to solve real-world problems through technology. Female undergraduates are required to develop a system with a mobile application that solves real problems in their communities. Competitors can create teams with not more than five members and will be mentored by tech women from academia and industry. The competitions will be carried out in two rounds, where 10 teams will be selected for the final round.

EMERGING INNOVATOR

COMPETITION DETAILS

Description

This will be a unique opportunity for you to compete with other innovators and showcase your ICT based innovations developed with cutting-edge technologies. All outstanding innovations will be recognized, rewarded and provided with the support to take your innovations to the next level and to commercialize them. This will be a perfect platform for you to meet the potential investors and likeminded enthusiasts.

Who can apply

We invite nominations from individuals, groups and organizations who have developed an innovative ICT solution that has the potential to uplift the society and contribute towards to development of our country.

Evaluation Criteria

SCOPE: Impact of the problem identified, Soundness of the proposed solution

DESIGN & TECHNICAL REALIZATION: Comprehensiveness and the quality of the design and the implementation

NOVELTY: Design and Technological novelty of the proposed solution

USABILITY: User friendliness, aesthetic aspects and the level of interactivity

SOCIAL IMPACT: The positive impact towards the to the society and the economy

COMMERCIALIZATION: Business feasibility of the solution.

Selection Process

The preliminary round of the competition will be held on Tuesday 25th September 2018 at SLIIT Malabe campus. You are given 30 minutes to do a presentation/demonstration of your product. (20 minutes will be allocated for the presentation and demonstration of your product and 10 minutes will be allocated for question answering). There will be 8 competitors/groups selected for the final round based on the assessment conducted at the preliminary round. Evaluation will be carried out by a panel of experts from the industry and academia.

The final round will be held on 3rd October 2018 at SLIIT Malabe Campus. Gold, Silver, Bronze winners will be selected based on the final evaluation and the 5 remaining teams will be given merit certificates. Cash prizes and awards for the participants of the final round will be given at the CODEFEST 2018 awards ceremony on the same day.
